It is perplexing to observe the amount of outmoded and misdirected initiatives that keep being announced by our Federal Government in relation to Education.
All research recognises that teaching and learning cannot be measured, graphed and listed by graph on a website. I have already had parents contact me to say, “I am choosing a school based on the results on My school website.” How misleading for parents!! In addition, we now have human beings given the label of an ID number to continue to track results and the suggestion that those would also be placed on the website for public screening!! I wonder if we should give our politicians numbers and score them each year in ranking order based on one small measure!! I had such high hopes two years ago and for some inexplicable reason, our education policy seems to be becoming less and less about revolution, innovation and quality, and more and more about measurement and dehumanisation!! I wonder when politicians and those misguided advisors they listen to will recognise that accountability and quality doesn’t have to equal simplicity and simplistic measurement and ranking.
